About Avi Simon
From Actor → Manager → Coach
Over four decades of real industry experience — now applied exclusively to coaching.
The Actor
My initial acting training was in New York, where feedback was blunt, direct and specific. I received my bachelor's degree from New York's Columbia University, and I studied acting in New York City during and after my college years. Then I moved to Los Angeles and received a Master of Fine Arts in Acting from the University of Southern California.
In Los Angeles, I experienced a very different acting training culture than I experienced in New York—plenty of encouragement, but far less honesty. I got tired of hearing how good I was without getting the help I needed to get even better and book more consistently.
I became a working actor who booked 100+ speaking roles in union projects, including Friends, Mad Men, The Drew Carey Show, Las Vegas, Beverly Hills 90210, and many others.
I was working…but something was holding me back.

When I transitioned into management, I promised myself I'd be the manager I always wished I'd had. Someone that could give me:
- Honest feedback about what was working
- Honest feedback about what wasn't working
- A clear understanding of how the business operates and casting decisions are made
- Guidance grounded in both craft and industry reality
I spent over 17 years as a successful Hollywood talent manager, serving as President of Rectangle Entertainment, a respected management company well-known within the industry.
As A Manager, I Had A Front-Row Seat to How Casting Works
- Read casting breakdowns daily
- Observed which submissions resulted in audition requests
- Watched self-tapes and then saw which casting responded to—and which missed the mark
- Worked closely with actors on audition scenes
- Interacted directly with agents and casting directors
- Helped actors build their careers and book major roles in TV and film
- Observed how some actors turned small roles into recurring and series regular roles
- Developed actors from few or no credits into series regulars
Under My Management And Guidance, Actors Booked:
- Series regular roles
- Major recurring guest stars
- Guest stars and co-stars
- Film, commercials, and theater
- ...and more
The Coach
My background informs my coaching—but it does not define my role today. My management career is now fully in the past. My work today is 100% exclusively as an audition coach, bringing all that I've learned directly to actors through My Audition Coach.
