FAQ — My Audition Coach

Question 1

Is this coaching only for experienced actors?

Accepted Answer

No. I work with actors at every stage of their careers. Some clients are preparing for their first professional auditions, while others regularly audition for television, film, or theater. What matters most is seriousness, preparation, and a commitment to improving your craft.

Question 2

Do you coach comedy as well as drama?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. Much of my own acting career has been in comedy, but I coach both comedy and drama. The underlying principles of truthful acting, strong choices, and compelling storytelling apply to every genre.

Question 3

How is this different from AI audition coaching apps?

Accepted Answer

AI tools can offer general notes or pattern-based feedback. What they cannot offer is live collaboration, human judgment, taste, timing, and guidance informed by real industry experience. Coaching is interactive and tailored to you. Casting directors and producers are human beings, so your coach should be one as well! Coaching is a conversation, not an algorithm.

Question 4

What kind of actors are not a good fit?

Accepted Answer

Actors looking for validation only, shortcuts, guarantees, or industry access are not a good fit. This work is about craft, clarity, and growth.

Question 5

Do you coach self-tapes?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Many sessions focus on preparing for upcoming auditions and self-tape requests. We'll work to make your performance truthful, specific, and camera-ready. For the best video quality, you will want to set up a 2nd camera/phone on a tripod at home to record the scene locally in high definition once we've worked on it. This ensures crisp lighting and zero internet glitching. I will be your reader. Once we're done with our session, you will be able to edit the audition and submit it.

Question 6

What acting techniques do you teach?

Accepted Answer

My work is heavily influenced by the Meisner Technique and Viola Spolin's Theater Games. Rather than asking actors to imitate a particular style, I use these tools to help you become more truthful, relaxed, spontaneous, and connected.

Question 7

Do I have to be in Los Angeles?

Accepted Answer

No. Sessions are conducted remotely over Zoom, making coaching available wherever you're located.

Question 8

Is this coaching meant to replace an agent or manager?

Accepted Answer

No. Coaching is not a substitute for representation. Agents and managers serve a different role. My role is to help you become a stronger actor and a stronger auditioner through coaching and consultation.

Question 9

What should I bring to a session?

Accepted Answer

If you have an upcoming audition, send me the sides in advance. If you don't have material you'd like to work on, I can provide scenes to work on.
